Fragments from the old paths
Fragment XVII — The First Keeper
The first keeper wrote no claim of ownership. At the threshold there is only a leaf cut into the stone, silver where the moon reaches it and dark at every other hour.
Those who came after kept the mark, though none remembered whose hand had made it.

Three travelers marked the western road with pale stones before dusk. At dawn the stones remained, yet the road between them was gone beneath fern and root.
The oldest note in the margin offers no explanation: “A path may refuse the feet that seek it too eagerly.”
Archive status · partially damagedFragment XXXI — The Lantern
It hangs where the two ash trees lean together. No oil has been poured into its bowl within living memory, yet a small gold flame waits behind the glass.
When mist gathers on the lower path, the keeper's instruction is unchanged: leave it burning until morning.
Archive status · author unknownFragment XLII — Moonwater
The northern lake is still even under wind. Travelers are advised not to mistake the reflections for prophecy; memory and warning often wear the same shape upon dark water.
Archive status · translatedFragment XLVII — The Quiet Gate
A gate of black wood stands beyond the moss bridge, though no wall is joined to it. The inscription has worn away except for two words: return unburdened.
